Forestry Club
The mission of the Yale Forestry Club (FC) is to first and foremost foster a strong sense of community at the School of the Environment (YSE). FC organizes events that bring together the YSE community, including students, faculty, and staff, in a variety of ways to facilitate discussion, knowledge exchange, and collaboration with the greater Yale community. FC members make themselves readily accessible to all students, seek and encourage new ideas for programs and activities, and create inclusive and safe spaces for the student body. Through these activities, FC builds a sense of community at YSE that will last for years to come. New members are nominated and elected to the Forestry Club by the student body at the beginning of each semester.
The social functions of the club include organizing six annual celebrations: Halloween Party, Talent Show, Holiday Party, Spring Auction (to raise funds for YSE events), Tacky Prom, and an End of the Year Party to celebrate the graduating class. Other annual community-building events that FC co-organizes include, but are not limited to: Community Day and Facilities and Maintenance Staff Appreciation Day. The Forestry Club also hosts weekly social gatherings called TGIFs (Thank God I’m a Forester), many of which are themed or hosted in partnership with various student groups, conferences, or the alumni office. Outside of these scheduled activities, FC also responds to the needs of the community by facilitating additional gatherings to discuss current issues of importance to students. Lastly, FC, in partnership with the Society of American Foresters, oversees and manages the procurement and sale of YSE-related gear. All of these events further FC’s mission of fostering and strengthening community at YSE.
