Preparing for Your Arrival

The City of New Haven is a great place to live, work and study! There is so much to see and do and we hope you take time to enjoy some of Yale’s and New Haven’s many offerings.

New Haven is just 1.5 hours from New York City and 2.5 hours from Boston. For information and resources related to traveling to Yale and New Haven go here.

New Haven has four distinct seasons – hot and humid in the summer, chilly and windy in the fall, cold and snowy in the winter, and rainy in the spring. There are plenty of stores to buy what you need in the New Haven area.

Getting Settled

One of our greatest hopes is that you settle into your Yale home nicely and comfortably. For information on securing your living arrangements, go to the housing section of the guide.

There are a plethora of grocery stores and stores to buy essentials and furniture in the New Haven area. A starters list is below –

Student Accessibility Services

Student Accessibility Services (SAS) at Yale is committed to promoting equitable access to education and student life for students with disabilities, and to fostering a campus environment of belonging, inclusion, and respect. SAS determines reasonable accommodations for all students with disabilities, and works collaboratively with Yale faculty, staff, and students to ensure accessible and equitable educational access. For more information on the steps to request accommodations go here https://sas.yale.edu/get-started/graduate-and-professional-students

Peer Mentoring Program (PMP)

The Peer Mentor Program is part of YSE’s greater mentoring network. In this program, rising second-year students are matched with incoming students to help them navigate their first year at YSE and greater Yale. The overall goals of the Peer Mentor Program are to create a sense of community among students, help first-year students’ transition to life at Yale and greater New Haven, and enhance the leadership skills of our second-year students. Incoming students hear from their Peer Mentors the month of May.
