Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

DEI at YSE

The Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is committed to creating an inclusive environment for all students, staff, and faculty.  Our diverse perspectives shape the way we approach environmental work. Thus, we aim to foster a school environment that supports all individuals to increase our collective learning, awareness, and empathy. In this way, Yale School of the Environment strives to promote leadership at the School and in communities around the world for a more sustainable future for all people and the planet.

Cultural Affairs & Centers at Yale

Cultural centers at Yale house various student organizations and provide welcoming spaces for meetings, plays, and parties. The four Cultural Centers at Yale are Afro-American, Asian American, La Casa, and Native American. Each cultural center strives to provide inclusive and diverse environments that engage the community in dialogue, cultural awareness and respect and appreciation. The Office of LGBTQ Resources and the Chaplain’s Office also provide support and contribute a sense of community for students from across the university.

Student Accessibility Services

The primary mission of the Student Accessibility Services office is to facilitate individual accommodations for all students with disabilities throughout the entire University, and by so doing, work to remove physical and attitudinal barriers, which may prevent their full participation in the University community. Current, past, and prospective students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the office for more information. The office is equipped to assist with such things as course accommodations, parking and transportation, dining, safety and more.

Prayer Rooms

YSE has two dedicated spaces for quiet meditation or prayer. One is Sage Hall Room 8, and the other is 380 Edwards Street Room 202. Each space is adaptable for use by individuals of various faith traditions, and each door is equipped with a sliding “occupied/vacant” sign for privacy. For more information about religious and spiritual traditions within the wider Yale community, visit chaplain.yale.edu.

Student Organizations

The community of students at YSE is made up of environmental leaders who take part in an array of student organizations and activities. Read more about Student Affairs Committee (SAC), Forestry Club, and Student Interest Groups.

Belonging at Yale

Belonging at Yale is the name for the university’s activities to enhance diversity, support equity, and promote an environment of welcome, inclusion, and respect.

YSE Multicultural Guide

This is a community-sourced guide that provides information on businesses and resources within greater New Haven County. The list of businesses was current at the time of this printing. The handbook remains a work in progress. We appreciate your help in adding to our shared knowledge. If you have any additional resources to add, please send the information to: chenee.gallaher@yale.edu. Yale University does not endorse any businesses and or listing in this handbook does not confer any endorsement to the companies.
