Disposal of Computer / Electronic Equipment
Please note that under no circumstances should any type of electronic equipment be disposed of with regular trash. Many electronic components contain hazardous materials. As such local laws require these items to be disposed of properly. For any old equipment that YSE-IT plans to discard, the faculty or staff member may request to purchase old equipment at fair market value as determined by YSE-IT and approved of by the YSE lead administrator per

Yale has partnered with Universal Waste to dispose or recycle unwanted electronic items such as desktop and laptop computers, phones (cellular and land lines), monitors, printers, scanners, etc.
To facilitate removal of these items, please submit a request with the following information:

- Your Name Location of Items Description of Items
- This will create a ticket and allow YSE-IT staff to come to your location and collect any hard drives from unwanted computers for data removal to ensure data security is not compromised.
- After the hard drives have been removed, all data will be wiped from the drive using United States department of defense standards and a pickup will be scheduled with Universal Waste.
